Holidays are Over

Off to Sydney Again!

Over the last three years, Melbourne-based lima bean has supplied beautiful ChangeMates to over 50 retailers across Australia.

With an emphasis on beautiful fabrics, our focus is on practicality without sacrificing style.

Last year, we attended our first ever trade show - Kids in Style (part of Life in Style) at the Horden Pavillion. It was quite a learning curve but also a lot of fun and well worth it for our little business.

There, we successfully launched our range of Australian made Bandana bibs - stylish enough to be worn all day (great for dribblers!)

… and this year it’s gorgeous, playful Winter beanies.

So Emma and I are gearing up for another great show at the end of February - getting ready new ranges of ChangeMates, bandana bibs and hats; building a new set; and organising six children, two husbands and a couple of Grandmas to keep everything going while we are away.

This year we will again be doing the road trip up to Sydney early in the morning - I've got the TomTom and the disco songs on the i-pod ready to go!

Our new products will be available online and in stores in April - I will post images when I have more.

The Spring has sprung, the grass is rizz. I wonder where them birdies is?

The Spring has sprung, the grass is rizz. I wonder where them birdies is?
Winnie the Pooh

Spring is here...finally!
After weeks and weeks of dreary weather, the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming. In celebration of Spring, we decided to bake some biscuits for an afternoon tea picnic in the garden. Having taken possession of a fabulous cupcake-shaped cookie cutter from Bisk-Art, which just happens to match our fantastic idTee cupcake apron, the opportunity seemed too good to miss!

Vanilla sugar biscuits

200g unsalted butter at room temperature
200g sugar
2 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla
450g plain flour

Beat the butter and sugar until light and creamy. Add the vanilla and the eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add the flour and beat until the mixture forms a dough (it may look a little crumbly at this point, but you can use your hands to bring it together).

Knead the dough lightly into a ball. Divide the ball into four portions, wrap each in cling film and refrigerate for an hour.

Bring out a portion of dough at a time and roll out on a lightly floured board to the desired thickness*. Cut out your shapes and bake in a preheated 170°C oven for 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Cool before decorating.

Decorate to your heart’s content. For these little cupcakes I used Pettinice fondant icing which I coloured before rolling out. Brush each biscuit with a little light corn syrup before applying the icing.

*A neat trick to get a uniform thickness is to use a sort of frame on either side of your dough. Your rolling pin will roll the dough out until it rests on top of your guides and voila! You have a perfect thickness each time. In this case I used wooden chopsticks (Although I’m sure the professionals have a more custom-made solution!)

Your assistants will have a lovely time cutting out and decorating these gorgeous biscuits...and an even better time eating them!
Just in time for Christmas, idTee will be offering a personalised apron and cupcake cookie cutter as a gift pack for $29.50

Tiges and Weince - Newest Member

Hi there, I am Kylie & the newest member of the Mum's Biz team.
Like all of the other talented ladies involved I make babies accessories.

Tiges and Weince was born from my love of designing baby and children’s wear. I have an extensive back ground in the fashion industry in both womenswear and childrenswear, so following this creative path seemed the most natural thing to do.
The products I develop are basic essentials every baby just can’t do without, bibs, burp cloths, and wipes. However there is nothing basic in my design. I love working with bright colors, due to it’s power to create a happy positive mood for everyone.
My style I would describe as a collection of simple clean lines with a classic, yet contemporary feel, and an individual twist.

Drawing is another love and I have developed an illustrated line of magnetic bookmarks. Once you use one of these you can never go back to an ordinary bookmark.
My children’s illustrations are also available in ready to be framed prints. The designs are full of fun creating an affordable way to brighten any child’s bedroom or playroom.
The motto of my brand is "funky, bright, cheerful", basically if it’s not any of those descriptions then I simply do not produce it.

I love what I do as it provides me the lifestyle I want. To be an independent business woman who can keep following my dreams, look after my son full time, and still enjoy my life.

I look forward to becoming a regular contributor on the mums biz blog and hope you enjoy reading it.
